COMMIT TO YOU
Do you ever find yourself making commitments and promises to others and always following through-but then when it comes to YOU and the commitments you make to yourself, you find yourself slacking off? I know i'm guilty of it for sure. But along my self improvement journey, and after hearing or reading it over and over again in whatever self help book or video I was reading or watching at the time, I finally realized one thing...
DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU WILL DO
Every single time I set a goal I didn't accomplish, created a to-do list I didn't finish, or made a commitment to myself I didn't follow through on, I ended up feeling like complete SHIT. When we don't follow through and keep the promises we make to ourselves, we end up feeling regret, guilty, and overall just...inadequate. And unfortunately, these negatives feelings and views we have towards ourselves for each occasion, leads to a repetitive cycle of feeling less than, overwhelmed, and overall just not happy with who we are and what we have to offer.
Self-growth and the self love journey is a life long journey and a vital component of overall well-being and happiness. One of the best ways to practice self-love is by doing what you say you will do; making a commitment to yourself and following through.
BE A WOMAN (OR MAN) OF YOUR WORD
Look at it this way....Keeping your word is a fundamental aspect of building trust and credibility in ANY relationship, whether it be personal or professional. It is the foundation upon which all successful interactions are built. When you make a commitment, whether it be a promise or an agreement, you are essentially giving your word that you will follow through on it. Failing to do so can have serious consequences, not only for the relationship, but for your own reputation and integrity.
BE RELIABLE (FOR OTHERS AND YOURSELF)
When you consistently follow through on your commitments, people will come to rely on you and trust that you will do what you say you will do. This is especially important in professional settings, where trust is essential for building strong working relationships and achieving shared goals. And it's definitely important for the people closest to us in our lives. We want and expect them to follow through on what they tell us they will do, so it's only natural that we need to do the same for them in order to maintain a healthy relationship. But if it's so important and vital for relationships we have with OTHERS, imagine how important and vital it is for the relationship we have with OURSELF.
BUILD TRUST
When you make a commitment to yourself and follow through on it, you build trust in yourself. You are sending the message to yourself that you are worthy of respect, and that your needs and wants matter. You are showing yourself that you value your own time and energy, and that you believe in your ability to achieve your goals. When you don't follow through on your commitments, you are essentially telling yourself that you don't matter, which can lead to a lack of self-respect. When you break a commitment to yourself, it can lead to feelings of guilt, shame, and disappointment. On the other hand, when you keep your word to yourself, it promotes feelings of self-worth and self-esteem.
SELF DISCIPLINE
Doing what you say you will do is also a form of self-discipline. It requires setting priorities, making choices, and taking actions that align with your values and goals. When you consistently follow through on your commitments, you are strengthening your willpower, which can help you achieve greater success in other areas of your life. Having this trust in yourself can be a powerful tool in your life, as it can help you to overcome obstacles and achieve your goals.
INTEGRITY MATTERS
Another reason why keeping your word is important is that it demonstrates integrity. Integrity is the quality of being honest, trustworthy, and ethical, and it is a vital trait in any person. When you keep your word, you are showing that you are a person of integrity who can be trusted to do what is right. This is not only important for building relationships, but also for maintaining your own self-respect and sense of self-worth.
SET THE EXAMPLE
In addition, keeping your word is important because it sets an example for others. When you make a commitment and follow through on it, you are setting an example for others to follow. This can inspire others to do the same and can help create a culture of trust and integrity within your community or organization.
GAIN RESPECT FROM YOURSELF AND OTHERS
In conclusion, doing what you say you will do is the best form of self-love as it shows that you respect yourself, value your time and energy, and trust yourself. It helps you to build self-discipline, self-esteem and self-worth. It helps create and maintain better and healthier professional and personal relationships. This simple yet powerful act of self-love can have a profound impact on your overall well-being and happiness, and can create so much positive change in your life in so many areas all while you're building a better version of yourself in the process. Sounds like a WIN-WIN to me!! What do you think?
